How to learn subject effectively ..whatever it is??

I make 6  steps to quick gain of knowledge

1.Learn what you know.
Wwhat do you really know about the topic? You might know more than you think. Writing down your knowledge in point form (or in a brainstormed mind map) helps you to learn what you already know. This makes it easier to decide what you still have to learn.

2.Learn what you don’t know (i.e., decide what to learn).
When I was in my twenties and wanted to be an actor, I
studying Lee Strasberg’s method acting by “living” a role to the best of my ability. I try to do the analogue with writing, when possible, especially on topics I’ll be writing about regularly. Now, maybe you don’t need to be an expert, but do you know what you need to learn for your immediate purposes? Whether you’re writing an article, a blog post, a term paper, a technical manual or just learning, decide on the scope of your learning. For example, if you’re learning a highly technical subject, you may need to prep your mind by browsing and surfing relevant websites before the actual learning. This task should be part of your scope as well.

3.Map out your project plan.
No matter how little you have to learn, it’s still a project, and (mind)mapping what your tasks are makes them concrete in your mind. This plan should be an extension of the scope you determined in the last step. If your learning is going to be over a long-term, and/or if you will be learning multiple topics, a project plan just helps you balance everything without feeling overwhelmed. (I’ll get into more detail about using mindmapping to develop a project plan in the future.)

4.Choose your references.
Now you’re implementing your project plan. One step should be to choose some references. If you have access to a suitable library, go for it. If not, use a good search engine online and bookmark some suitable references in your web browser. Be as thorough as you need to be, as these will be the soure of your new knowledge.

5.Summarize each reference.
After selecting your references, read and summarize them fast. I’ll have a separate post in near the future on how to do this using mind maps. Basically, summarize each reference in a few articles. Make your own Cliff Notes, so to speak. For each paragraph in each reference, write only one or two sentences of summary. Stop yourself from going beyond that, and don’t edit your summaries. (You can always go back and re-read if you felt you missed something.)

6.Rewrite your summaries.
To concretize your new knowledge, take your summaries for all references as a whole and write a short blog post or article, regardless of why you’re learning. Make sure that you use your own words. To insure that, try writing without looking at your summaries, if possible. This is the last and most important step.

I’ll try to expand on each step in separate posts in the near future. If you have any questions, feel free to drop a comment.

Mother's Day Story

The story of Mothers Day is a long one. It is neither a recent phenomenon as many people believe it to be. Nor it is the creation of card and gift marketers syndicate as assumed by cynics of Mothers Day festival. To the surprise of lot many people Mothers Day celebrations are first said to have taken place in the time of ancient Greeks and Romans hundreds of years ago. Even Mothers Day celebrations in UK began much before the tradition saw the light of the day in US. In US the efforts of Ms Julia Ward Howe and Ms Anna Jarvis are greatly recognised for starting the tradition of Mothers Day but several other women too made remarkable contribution to further the cause of Mothers Day holiday.

Today Mothers Day is celebrated in more than 46 countries around the world though at different times in the month of May and in some countries it is celebrated in entirely different times of the year.

IAS Success story

                 IAS officer  success story

An inerview by 10th ranker belongs to 2009 batch

What were the basic mantras of your success?
Hard work, passions, and to love what I studied and never let the target deviate from my sight.
When did you start preparation for the IAS Examination? When should one ideally begin thinking about preparing for this exam?
According to me the ideal time for starting the preparation should be June-July i.e. one year in advance of the Preliminary exam.
How did you start preparation for the IAS Examination?
Initially, I gave my full effort in understanding each and every topic of the syllabus, after which I started incorporating the contemporary information and paid special attention towards recent changes that are taking place in the present time.
What were your optionals?
I opted for a safe subject like Geography. I had a science background and that was the basis of choosing a semi-scientific subject like Geography. My second option was Hindi Literature.
Which is the most difficult part of this exam and why? What was your strategy to tackle this difficult part?
The most difficult part of the preparation for this exam is time management. Balance between the preparation of two opitionals and General Studies should also be maintained. Even the preparation of essay is also very important and helps in getting good rank.
How did you manage your time in both prelims and mains examination?
I firstly studied all the minute details of Mains syllabus and based on those information I switched over to preliminary examination. I followed this strategy for both, General Studies and Geography Optional.
For mains I was always focused on organised presentation of the analysis.
Did you integrate your Prelims or Mains preparation or was it separate?
Information and analytical power that I grasped for mains preparation helped me a lot in my Prelims preparation. Therefore, both the preparation has to be integrated, it cannot be separated. Of course objective practice of Prelims preparation must be taken care above all.
What should be the best strategy to tackle negative marking?
The student must have an objective understanding of the topic which they study so that however close a choice, they must not be confused. It they are not confident they should not base their answer on guess-work. This is the best way of avoiding negative marking.
Did you prepare notes? How helpful are the notes? What is your advice on notes-makers?
Yes I did prepare my own notes. I have a habit of preparing notes and then study. My notes were never static. I always got hold of new information and added them to my notes. These notes always improve the analytical power and bring conceptual clarity. Therefore, I would advise the aspirants to make notes based on good quality information they can lay their hands on.
What was your style of writing in the exam? How was it distinct from the general writing style? How did you develop this writing style?
Ans. Whatever I studied for mains optional I always tried to present the same in a very organised manner. I had developed a way of good presentation by making notes always and improving them from time to time. I attempted those questions first whose answer I knew well.
Tell us something about preparation of essay paper.
The objective understanding of the topics of essay, its organised presentation has been my strategy for essay preparation.
How did you prepare for interview?
My Interview preparation was not based on any special strategy. Evaluation of all the factual analysis of Government Policies is one of the most important parts of Interview preparation. Therefore, I carefully revised them.
Which types of questions were asked in interview? Did you answer all?
My Interview was very easy and simple. The attitude of the board was very friendly and co-operative. They asked questions on my earlier services – 'India Trade Services' and International Relations. To be precise they asked question on 'Foreign Trade Policy', Indo-Iran Pipeline, Present Position of Afghanistan, Steps taken by

story 2

@@@..HEART TOUCHING STORY 2..@@ One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?" "You don't owe me anything," she replied "Mother has taught us never to accept payment for a kindness." He said... "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt; stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit. Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case. After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught her attention on the side as she read these words...... "Paid in full with one glass of milk." (Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly. Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank You, GOD, that Your love has spread abroad through human hearts and hands."

heat touching story 1

@@..HEART TOUCHING STORIES...@@ STORY 1: There was once this guy who was very much in love with his girl. This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a gift to his girl. Although, at that time he was just a small fry in his company, his future didn't seem too bright, they were very happy together. Until one day, his girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come back. She also told him that she cannot visualize any future for the both of them, so they went their own ways there and then... Heartbroken, the guy agreed. But when he regained his confidence, he worked hard day and night, slogging his body and mind just to make something out of himself. Finally with all the hard work and the help of friends, this guy had set up his own company .. You never fail until you stop trying. One rainy day, while this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn't take him long to realize they were his girl's parents. With a heart in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan. He wanted them to know that he wasn't the same any more; he had his own company, car, condo, etc. He made it! What he saw next confused him, the couple was walking towards a cemetery, and so he got out of his car and followed...and he saw his girl, a photograph of her smiling sweetly as ever at him from her tombstone and he saw his paper cranes right beside her... Her parents saw him. He asked them why this had happened. They explained, she did not leave for France at all. She was ill with cancer. She had believed that he will make it someday, but she did not want to be his obstacle... therefore she had chosen to leave him. Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. She had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes beside her, because, if the day comes when fate brings him to her again...he can take some of those back with him... Once you have loved, you will always love. For what's in your mind may escape but what's in your heart will remain forever. The guy just wept......The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside her knowing you can't have her, see her or be with her ever again....... ..hope you understand. Find time to realise that there is one person who means so much to you, for you might wake up one morning losing that person who you thought meant nothing to you. KINDNESS Pays ! STORY 2;;;;

$$BLIND LOVE$$

There was a blind girl who was filled with animosity and despised the world. She didn’t have many friends, just a boyfriend who loved her deeply, like no one else. The girl never saw her boy friend. She always used to say that she’d marry him if she could see him. Suddenly, one day someone donated her pair of eyes.

And she was fully cured from blindness. And that’s when she finally saw her boyfriend. She was astonished to see that her boyfriend was blind. He told her, “You can see me now, can we get married?” She replied what to do? We’d never be happy. I have my eye sight now, but you’re still blind. It won’t work out. I am really sorry.” I can’t marry you.
With a tear in his eye and a smile on his face, he meekly said, “I understand. I just want you to always be happy. Take care of yourself, and my eyes too.” I love you so much.
